The role of the Accessibility Advisory Committee is to provide advice to the municipal government on a wide range of municipal processes to help make public services and facilities accessible to everyone, with its main responsibilities being to:
~ Advise municipal council about requirements, implementation of accessibility standards and preparation of accessibility reports
~ Review site plans and drawings described in Section 41 of the Planning Act
~ Perform all other functions that are specified in the regulations

Board Information
The Accessibility Advisory Committee generally meets monthly, on the third Thursday of the month at 2:00 p.m. at the Collingwood Public Library, or at the call of the Chair. The Committee establishes a regular meeting schedule that may be reviewed from time to time.
Meetings are held in a hybrid format with ability to participate in-person and remotely.

The Committee is established under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and is composed of seven (7) voting citizen members that are appointed by Council of the Town of Collingwood, with a majority of the membership to the committee required to identify as persons with disabilities. The membership term is generally for three years, with eligibility for reappointment. A majority of the membership to the Committee is required
Staff resources are allocated to the Committee to provide expertise and support to the Committee.
Members of Council may join a meeting as a non-voting ex-officio member on an ad hoc basis.
Eligible to vote in the Town of Collingwood municipal election.
Should represent skill sets and/or interest in the following areas: youth, adults, seniors, persons with disabilities, keen awareness of accessibility issues, expertise in construction or design of public spaces.
A majority of the members of the committee shall be persons with disabilities.
Demonstrated leadership (mandatory for chair).
Good communication skills, demonstrate initiative, and positive attitude.
